For the Spirit
A unique process of embodied expansion, alert choice and moment- by-moment surrender.
In its depth the Alexander Technique is a quick & tangible tool for spiritual development, enhancing awareness, conscious choice and expansion.
It really builds the muscle of inner connection & presence. What's more, it provides a uniquely tangible tool for the art of non-doing and surrender. As we drop layers of tension we become more alert and open as a whole. Our sense perceptions grow.
As we learn to spot the momentums where tensions are created, we gain the power of choice. We can drop & not create these tensions in the very now. And with this discovery, self-mastery unfolds in several ways...
1. Capacity of Surrender
As our capacity to surrender to our innate physical flow unfolds, our capacity to step more fully into the flow of life grows.
2. Presence
Through staying aware and in our bodies, we also grow our ability to remain alert & conscious beyond the body. This fosters a grounded, real life expansion that moves us beyond the meditation room, into the here and the now.
3. Ongoing choice
As we grow our ability to remain aware throughout daily activities we exponentionally increase our ability to choose how we respond to life situations.
4. Directions and control
What and who is this force that gives us this newfound choice? We experience, in very alive fashions, how our mind-infused consciouness directs what is happening in our bodies, ourselves and our lives at any one moment. We can now choose to use it, engage it, direct it, or leave it - all at will.
5. Self-mastery
As we bypass habitual & default physical responses throughout our daily activities, we also learn to disengage from unhelpful default responses of mind and emotions.
6. Transformation
As we drop our unwanted habitual responses they no longer drive our bodies and our lives. An exciting space of new freedoms emerges.
The beauty of the technique is that by learning through our physicality, we bypass many traps of the mind.
We don't need to get caught up in self-judgments or the need to interpret, justify, understand, or even heal. (That's right, we do not necessarily need to heal that big trauma to let go of the physical tension and start opening into the eternal flow of life). Yet, we learn to engage the very mind consciously and befriend it in new and exciting ways. Each time we act out of consciousness, our consciousness rejoices and grows. We note a physical response and gain momentum by staying present in the moment and the innate flow.
There is no call to engage in entangled thoughts and emotions. The Alexander Technique develops our ability to positively engage our awareness, or not. We now may direct the body to function as we want it to, or we simply inhibit the overactive mind and stop it from intefering with the body's open flow. As the physical tension drops, we are left with a natural opening for the next moment to flow into either postural, or life action (or non-action) with clarity and ease.
In short, the processes of the technique provide us with uniquely embodied tools for self-mastery. All levels of our beingness, the mind, the emotions and the spiritual are reflected in our physicality. All levels of disharmony translate into some form of physical tension. Unlike the mind, which likes to trick us, deny, or justify, the body never lies and empowers us thus.
